Scene 8 - The winning of the war.

1) This scene to me was kinda boring and weird because it just listed dates with the front page headlines of that date. Not much information on the pachucos but of the war going on and their winnings of it.
2)"Headline: District court of appeals decides in sleepy lagoon murder case" (p.87)
This is the last headline mentioned. It is important because it shows that even they war that their country is in is going on they still have a spot for the "Zoot siuters" in their front pages.
3) How long is the sleepy lagoon case going to be on the front page? which do the press think is more important? The riots or the war?

  1. I agree, i thought this scene was boring too. I was confused at first as to why they were talking about the war and barely mentioning the Pachucos, but then i realized that it all fit together because both events, the war and the case, were really the same - justice was being fought for in both.

To answer your question, I don't think it will get as much attention as it should. The press thinks the war is more important, but I think both are equally important. If you think about it, it's kind of contradictory to be in favor of one and oppose the other, because like i said before, both are fighting for the same thing - justice. The war is fighting for the equal treatment of Jews, Blacks, and others being oppressed and persecuted by Hitler because they didn't fit his idea of "a perfect human", and the case is fighting for the lawfulness of Pachucos and others who wear Zoot Suits and their lifestyle.

  2. I respect your opinion on how "boring and weird" scene 8 was to you; but to me this scene was the complete opposite, I really enjoyed reading it. On your opinion of the last headline, I'd like to disagree with that because I believe that the reason for the zoot suiters and the war being put together in the news, was not for you to see that they have a spot for the zoot suiters on the news, but to make them run in parallel with the war America was having.
